Based on my personal experience, as well as the experience of many of my customers, the dark build-up or dull sheen you are seeing may simply be a collection of dirt that results from wearing in direct heat during the summer months or from being exposed to condensation or humidity within your home.
Just follow the simple steps below to bring your beautiful items back to life. Once you have restored your sparkle, you will want to keep your jewelry looking its best. To do this, I would highly suggest using a quality polishing cloth (such as the one shown below that I provide to my customers who purchase a locket or chain from me directly) to clean your jewelry after each wear and storing jewelry inside a sealed bag or container to prevent exposure to household moisture and humidity.

8 Simple Steps for Restoring Sparkle to Your Origami Owl Chains
Line your metal cake pan completely with aluminum foil.
Carefully place your chain(s) on top of the aluminum foil.
Completely cover your chain(s) with a thick layer of baking soda.
Quickly pour boiling water over the baking soda.
Step back and watch the magic happen! You should be able to actually see the “tarnish” being dissolved and removed. You can let your chain(s) sit in this mixture for 2-5 minutes.
Remove from pan and rinse completely under water.
Dry quickly and completely and lay to rest on paper towel or other soft cloth.
Use a quality polishing cloth to shine and remove any remaining dullness. I provide a FREE polishing cloth to each customer who purchases a locket or chain from me directly.
NOTE: This process can be repeated if needed to remove extreme build-up.
